Thread regarding VMware layoffs

is monitor team still untouchable? would that change under broadcom?

been out of vmw for quite a few years, this news brought me back. I remember back in my days, monitor team was untouchable even though regular layoff hit almost all teams, protected by VPs/Fellows. Would it change under broadcom considering it's not really a revenue-generating team

It’s important I agree but code has been written. Is there anything majorly new on the horizon? Being the core kernel is important but since it’s so mature. I don’t know if there were argument to be made about making it smaller or less sacrosanct

The monitor team generates revenue by being the virtualization engine that is the secret sauce of vcenter. Without the virtualization engine, there is no vcenter.

Time will tell. It's just as much an unknown as any other group. But, broadcom would be foolish to drop such an important team or to reduce its size by very much.
