The fact is that a lot of us won't have our jobs at VMware six months or a year from now. Take the weekend to talk to your partner, do an inventory of your finances, go over your expenses, and figure out a plan for the future. You don't need anything detailed right now, just something that will put your mind at ease. My 2 cents.

Don't listen to the Broadcom shill telling you that attrition is low. Just look at the last quarterly report. "Stock-based compensation expense" went down from $307M to $261M, even though ex CA employees' RSUs are still ramping up thru this year. The only way for it to go down is by Fed up people leaving and forfeiting the remainder of their RSUs. Not a good place to work.

Most of the people bashing Broadcom are in competition for your jobs. If you quit - it’s more likely they’ll get to stay.
Yeah the work environment sucks at Broadcom, but they have very low attrition for a reason - $$$

I've come the conclusion that I and most other people will be let go. It's done. Get your pay while looking for a new job. The clock is ticking.
Agree with posts above. What’s the rush? Wait until we know more. Get your cv updated, start your own plan, and take control of your own future when you are ready.
I did exactly the same and realized that after the initial shock and dismay, we can move to acceptance of what is and the fact we have stuff in motion we cannot control. Acceptance of that will help immensely. As the OP said, take stock of where you are and how can use this as an opportunity to do things not previously possible. Take some courses, reinvent yourself, take time to give back, learn a new skill or hobbie, spend more time with loved ones, go for walks in the summer sunshine, start a gratitude journal...whatever it might be think of the possibilities and the opportunity here, there are no limitations so be brave, be bold and man up/woman up and make a plan and take action. Or you can wallow in self pity and disappoinment and be left on the shelf wodnering what happened.
