RSU - accelerated vesting and layoff

A common policy at a lot of companies I know is that if you're laid off then the next tranche (or sometimes more - but at least the next vesting) is accelerated and vest immediately.

Based on prior experience (CA and Symantec) do you think this is a possibility that Broadcom would offer such a deal? Mr. Hock did say those leaving would be "well compensated" whatever that means.

Handling of RSUs (and more) is spelled out in section 3.5 of the merger agreement. See SEC Edgar site for AVGO.

this isn't the case, I personally know friends who went through M&A and in all their cases the RSUs were accelerated to vest the next batch. Some also got a pro-rated bonus.

Yeah, they're not throwing money away on you unless you have a piece of paper, with the right legal words written upon it, forcing them to do so.

Typically only the top execs have change in control (CIC) clauses that allow for maybe one or two years of accelerated vesting, after the transaction closes. If you don't already have a contract for your employment with a CIC clause, don't assume you get any acceleration. Broadcom has no reason to offer extra money to people who want to leave on their own. And those that they fire after the close, those people will probably get nominal exit packages in line with the industry, cash package, no accelerated vesting. Knowing people at Symantec and CA, no one got anything overtly generous.
