Thread regarding VMware layoffs

How will Broadcom evaluate people?

Will the new owners effectively evaluate people, or will the PEs who have never written a line of code, or the senior staff that keep making cr4pware or the other senior people who haven't delivered results after many years of self-promotion be kept on?

I suppose it's probably a good thing to be reading this information about this company. Because the more I read about it, the more it sounds like even if they were to keep me pretty certain I don't want to stay there. They don't sound like a very nice place to work.

Like I said in my post these people are not doing product marketing. Yes you need product marketing that explains what the product does. What you don’t need are dozens of clueless fluff bunny corporate marketing and comms people.

CA was a software company too. I seem to recall CA’s Marketing Team was like 100 people or so. It is my understanding that Broadcom kept 2 marketing people. I am almost certain all the CMO’s Direct Reports were cut and all their direct reports were cut too. I believe they kept 1 communications person. To be honest though, I don’t believe any of the CA Marketing people wanted to stay, so most were thrilled to not be there. At the time, Broadcom didn’t even have a CMO. Not sure if that changed.

I'm sorry, but I have to address the comments about marketing. Sure. You can make chips and not have any marketing because it's stuff that people absolutely have to have and it's an easily recognizable quantifiable item. It's like recognizing that when you go to the hardware store you need half inch nuts or bolts. Everyone knows what that is.

Software is completely different animal. You have to have advertising and marketing for software. Far too many complex intricacies involved with the description and purpose and functionality of the given product.

Marketing is what sells software. You cut marketing? You lose sales. Pretty much as simple as that.

The bloat at VMware is incredible.

On the first call about Broadcom Ragu was introducted by Joan Stone, SVP Chief Comms. She has 7 direct reports and they have reports for a total of 59 people, doing communications, or you could say propaganda.

Or let's take Laura Heisman, SVP CMO, who has 12 direct reports and with their reports her organization 86 people, doing marketing. These people are not making a product, or selling a product or even doing product marketing. They are doing corporate brand awareness marketing.

You could ki-l both of these organizations and put the money into product or just save the money and the company would be better off.

Middle managers, sr managers, managers, and most directors, sr directors will be cut. Especially the bloated SASE

The GM should be on the look for someone to buy SASE. Otherwise, it will be drained to the garbage.

Well with the cr-p leadership, they are likely to get the cr-p employees. The only thing I am happy about is I fully expect those toxic leaders to lose their jobs. Too bad many will walk away with millions.

Your execs will evaluate the people

Broadcom may end up getting a whole patch of sycophants who make execs feel good, but have little actual value to Broadcom.

Your execs will evaluate the people . Not Broadcom . They will be give very small quote who can stay and they will have to decide.
