Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Their working style

When they acquired Symantec:

  1. They swung into action almost immediately- Broadcom does not waste any time - they have a team in place and the template is ready ! They used it with CA then with Symc
  1. They will mostly offer jobs to everyone in Engineering and then lay them off the following year - or most will leave on their own !!!
  1. If you are in Tech Support , IT, Education services etc or any other supporting function there is a good chance your job is hit
  1. They will absorb a portion of the workforce and tag them as TSA ( transition workforce) these are usually retained until 6 to 8 months post closure depending on what your area of work is
  1. Management will be given a tight rope to decide who they retain and who they let go - if you do not get a TSA contract consider yourself retained or let go - it was done very unethically at Symantec.
  1. They will almost immediately have weekly calls and will try and paint a very favourable picture in those calls later you will realise they keep talking the same thing in different ways
  1. Their FY start in November this will be a done deal before the FY starts .
  1. They are BIG on cost saving or optimisation and will not spare any moment to slice the flab . I have not seen a more aggressive company like them .

End of it all :
Wait and watch ! The Sev package is attractive! Many opted for the Sev , It worked out very well for Symc and prior to that for CA .
The biggest gainers from the Symantec acquisition were Symc immediate competitors !!

Read the news lately? The stupid EU probe is gonna drag this out so the chance this gets closed before Nov is next to zero although still expect it to be done sooner rather than later.
Wanted to time it to get severance and have a job lined up but this makes it harder, cant be greedy right now

Yes, what is their severance package? What are the details? This could be the only positive thing to come for some of us

After the acquisition of CA I was on the stay list, but they got rid of me after just under three years as they moved the role to Malaysia.

My base pay was never increased at any point, but I did manage to get two yearly bonuses (which was pretty decent) and cash out all of my RSU's that were available to me at the time of redundancy.

I was pretty lucky as my term at CA was carried over, so I had a 24 year redundancy package that was capped at 20 years and they were generous with the redundancy pay-out.

However, there are no frills what so ever at Broadcom and your working environment will be soulless, especially if they move you out of your building into some other cr---y building they own elsewhere.

If you are lucky enough to be on the transition-redundancy list, you could make quite a bit of cash out of it.

Unfortunately like every other acquisition Broadcom will strip VMware bare.
