My RSU Dollars Don't Buy Nearly as Much Broadcom Stock

Here's what I don't understand.

As a new hire, I accepted a $ amount of RSUs because the current market had vmware undervalued in my opinion; meaning I knew that I would make more money there as the # of RSUs is determined at hire.

With the move to Broadcom, the unvested RSU are transferred dollar-for-dollar, correct? There won't be a conversion to the $142 sale price as I understand it; which means my RSU dollars don't buy nearly as much broadcom stock so I'm out financially from what I had been planning on (risk, yes- I'm aware but it was my gamble).

If I'm asked to stay; what's the recommendation on making up that difference?

In the case of Symantec, Broadcom did not purchase the company. They purchased some of the assets of the company (i.e., the enterprise side of the business). The consumer side of the business was split off into NortonLifeLock.

So, there was no direct transfer of invested RSUs. Broadcom simply offered the incoming employees Broadcom RSUs. As far as I know, there was no formula based on the number of unvested Symantec RSUs. That being said, I believe that the Broadcom RSUs received by the vast majority of Symantec employees exceeded the value of their unvested Symantec RSUs. There was no direct correlation between the vesting schedule of the unvested Symantec RSUs and the newly granted Broadcom RSUs. The Broadcom RSUs vested on a quarterly basis over a four year period.

check the source, there is an FAQ it says "All outstanding equity awards of VMware shares will be substituted for shares of Broadcom, and the same vesting schedules ....."

how soon did your RSUs show up in Workday after you were hired?

I also recently accepted an offer with equity in dollar value rather than # of RSUs, but when I looked in Workday today, it was displayed in # of shares. Interestingly, a larger # of shares vests in year 1 with fewer in years 2-3. I’d check Workday.

I don't understand your math. If you got 5k in rsus you got 5k in whatever stock it is. If vmware was $500 and Broadcom was $140 would you expect to get more Broadcom stock or a like for like match? You would want more because it's backed by dollars
