Thread regarding VMware layoffs

First round of layoffs approx when?

So they expect the acquisition to close in FY 2023 which is Nov '22 to Oct '23. Given this what sort of timeline can we expect to hear about job and status? Guessing mid Q1 2023? around Feb maybe?

Will there be some opportunity for engineers to volunteer for the layoff package? Usually the later rounds of layoffs are less generous than the first round of layoffs. Wondering if this was the case for Symantec or CA.

First big round of layoffs will happen even before the merging date.

So did you hire freezing before the deal is closed? I am a new graduate who anticipated to join in July. Now I just want to be there for a few months to have VMware on my resume.

With CA, it was shortly after the deal was finalized (when this will be will depend on a lot of factors, among them possible legal intervention).

The start of the official layoffs will vary based on your country. The deal (to acquire CA) was finalized start of November and on the week of the 20th of December employees in the UK received their offer letter and later the contract. By that time, everything in the US and Apac was already done.

I am sure you will see a lot of departures now that the deal has been announced.
