They acquired Symantec more than two years ago and they're still cleaning house, or so I've been told. Two and a half years of near-constant cuts. It started with major layoffs and turned into small surgical cuts, but it's still happening. I have no intention of sticking around for something like that.

Guy, if you do your Job and do it well (once you are Broadcom) you will not get rif-d. Most folks that are cut complain or are not a good fit for their role.
job security in capitalist America is an oxymoron. There are few rules of operation in today's environment:
Have your Resume and Skills sharp at all times to interview for a new job if required
Have your emergency resources ready to weather a bad cycle
Take advantage of the cyclic nature of the economy - make hay while the sun shines - there is no employer loyalty - during the good times squeeze your employer to pay you as much or quit and move on because they will most definitely show you the door in a heartbeat during the bad times
annual layoffs were Pat Gelsinger’s thing. The first time he did it was just before XMAS.
Paul Maritz did 2 layoffs only when money was tight.
The other two have done none.
Vmware historically did big layoffs every year. Don't expect job security anywhere
