Yes. Broadcom will layoff employees that don’t even work for them yet.

Layoffs will happen as soon as the deal closes Nov 1 for the most redundant and transition employees 3 months later. If you have lots of years at VMW then expect a nice severance. If you don't want to wait then start applying.
First, breathe and relax. There are more important things in life. It will be okay. As long as you have marketable skills, then you will find something.
Expected closing 6-12 months, so November 1st,2022 thru May 1st, 2023. If you are on the "go" list, you'll be out of a job on the closing date, and will be informed of that about 45 days (6 weeks) before.
Does it typically happen few weeks before closing? what approx closing date of the deal?
