Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Too much unnecessary fear here

I dont understand why people are just focussing on doom and gloom. It will take them a couple of months or a year to close this acquisition.
First off, you all got a pretty decent headstart in pursuing other opportunities.
And then, when the deal closes, you would probably get a decent severance.
Overall, I think this is a minor discomfort ( for people who are worth their salt ).
Just chillax and let this one play out.

CAwas a great company to work for and employees felt miserable under Broadcom. They laid off people en masse which turned everything into a bundle of sh-t.

Within another year, most of the important folks left the org including customers.

Same thing happened with symantec. Broadcom has no culture. Does not give a sh-t about innovation. They look at numbers and lay off. Milk customers with the rest.

Its not so much fear but in many ways anger and disappointment. I guess everyone's situation is different from I cannot even count how many times I have had to change jobs for reasons similar to what happened today. VMware was the best company I ever worked for. So much better than some of the brutal cut throat firms I was at before- the kinds of company that sounds to be what Broadcom is. And now again the prospect of having to do it...... again. If someone had told me working in tech meant CONSTANTLY going from one job after another.... after another.... after another and almost always for reasons that had nothing to do with you. Its depressing and soul-sucking. I have no doubt what WILL happen. Most of us are going to lose our jobs. I've accepted it. I've been here many, many times. That doesn't mean it doesn't suck

some of us left perfectly good, well paying and stable jobs to join VMW, for us this is particularly brutal to be in this situation. I know switching to a new job always has some risk but it still totally sucks!!

oh well, learning experience I guess...

Kind of where I am at. I may get let go I may not. People keep bringing up Symantec but Symantec sucked pre acquisition too. I hadn't heard a good thing about CA either before they got bought. So who knows maybe this won't be the end of the world or I will have to get a new job.
