Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Should I be looking for another job?

After reading a few comments made here it sounds like Broadcom is a complete and total cut-throat company that slashes everything as soon as they buy another company. I currently work in brand and marketing at VMware. When we were acquired by Dell we were more or less left to do what we do and it was fine. It sounds like this may not be the case at Broadcom.

Feel free to be brutally honest.

If VMWare has 34,000 employees today, I would legitimately say they will cut about 25,000 - 30,000 people based on what they did at CA, Brocade and other acquisitions. I will also say, past behavior MAY predict future actions, but truly one really doesn’t know. They will cut people for sure, they absolutely have to. Everything you hear now is pure speculation. Our executive team disappeared after the announcement was made and we heard nothing from Broadcom until the deal closed, which makes sense since we were two different companies until legally closed.

Sorry, but if you are in brand and marketing you probably won’t be absolved into Broadcom. They will cut to the core.

Get your resume out there, network, and stay positive. Broadcom will give you a nice severance.

Anyone not working on R&D (well, D) of an established, profitable product or service is expendable and primarily considered a cost. The goal is to maximize margin while riding the existing gravy train. Marketing, IT, HR, Finance, Ops... get your resumes ready.

That's what I thought. Given that there is barely any "Branding" on their site it clearly shows they don't give a rat's a-s about that stuff at all. So that makes sense.

Honestly bro, any branding and and marketing jobs are considered complete, expendable bs departments over there. They only care about engineering and R&D.

If you been there for a while with lots of years under your belt, update your resume and get ready for a nice severance package in November. On the other hand, start interviewing anyway because the job market will be flooded with non-engineering talent looking for jobs.
