Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Product Marketing to be laid off?

Product marketing or partner marketing will be needed or Broadcom marketing will take over?
Given that Broadcom won't have any expertise in cloud/vistualization/SDN/Security/SASE, I would expect the marketing orgs to be largely untouched (barring VP/director levels - where there could be overlaps).
Thoughts?

Market is now centralized at Broadcom— at least in the BSG. If you are marketing, find your next ride.

VMware products used to be so good they sold themselves, think like ESX 3.0 days. The problem is not that VMware needs fancy marketing it's that VMware lost its way, in no small part thanks to people who thought products like vRealize and vCAC were great ideas. No loss I say.

OP, not quite right.

Most of marketing got shredded when Norton LifeLock sold to Broadcom. Broadcom doesn't do marketing, as Hock Tan expects customers to just flock to his companies. They focus on the top 1500 or so and squeeze them YoY.

Hock Tan is a crazy dude, but he's honest. If you don't make at least double digit profits (closer to 50%), he's not afraid to cut.

generally true. any b.s. overhead marketing is toast. product marketing will be retained at some clip level... and yah the empty suit marketing execs will be cut...
