Buy us or don't buy us, lay us off or don't lay us off, just get it over with. The prospect of not knowing what's going to happen and constantly having to stress about it for who knows how long sounds worse than ripping the band-aid off. Whatever the end result might be.

If they announce now, I bet it will be done by November. That's how the past few have been.

What is a 'good severance' from Broadcom?
Ive read the severance is good from Broadcom but can they actually afford to give it to the number of employees that they might/will layoff from VMW? this isnt CA or Symantec, this is like 15k+ if its only 40% of our workforce
Don’t let yourself get too stressed out over this, acquisitions are part of working in IT.
The best thing to do is be smart and be prepared. Polish your resume, take advantage of any free training you have now, and start networking. That way, if you do get laid off, you will be prepared.
If you are acquired by Broadcom and you are laid off, you will get a nice package to help you out. Broadcom cuts hard, yes, but unlike other companies they give a comfortable package.
Think about everything that goes into an acquisition- the duplicate roles, duplicate facilities, etc. You cannot expect everything to be known right away.
VMW did a lot of acquiring but let it create a lot of bloat, we all know this. That’s never going to lead to success, and that’s what makes it an attractive target for a smart CEO like Tan.
Of course there’s going to be some anxiety, but don’t let it overwhelm you. Start preparing for what comes next now and you may even come out of this situation ahead.
3x acquired here, its not the end of the world.
