Thread regarding Sears layoffs

ALL Hometown Stores Closing!!!

The end is imminent. A store in Northern Michigan leaked the news this morning.

"Goodbye Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas!!!! The powers that be at the corporate level have decided that Your Sears Hometown Store, along with ALL of the others, will be closing for good. Liquidation sales start Friday May 27th and will end July 14th or sooner. Thank you for your support over the years and Jordy, Christine, and I look forward to seeing you in our next chapter."

You are not supposed to wish people a happy Memorial Day :-/

First of all, as mentioned, OP, your link goes nowhere.
Even if this post was real, I would take this with a grain of salt. It might have just been written by a disgruntled franchisee, who was then made to take it down by those in Charge. Perhaps he was upset and falsely wrote that all of them are closing. As of now, there isn't any evidence that ALL of them are closing. And again, you provided a link which is not valid. So again, take this with a grain of salt. Certainly a lot of them ARE closing, but not ALL of them (at least as of yet). Happy Memorial Day!

I notified my LP colleagues about the Sault ste. Marie store's facebook posting. Although we don't patrol these stores, the publicity was negative for the company and the situation was quickly dealt with.

Looks like the multidownvoter guy got butthurt about the reply to the "9PM closing daily" comment.

The Sault Ste. Marie MI store has also been removed from the Sears Hometown store locator, even while other closing stores in Michigan (and elsewhere) remain on it.

We know these stores have little merchandise, so for many of them closing may not be a big event with Facebook postings and local news coverage. They will just lock the doors and move on. The company websites are still active, including "ownyourownsearsstore", so it seems the charade of having an ongoing business is still being played out.

They will all close eventually of course, since the name Sears is over the door. But it doesn't appear to be official for all of them just yet.

"Wait..Where is the "they close every night at 9PM" crew?

Different context in this case. Those replies are usually directed to the numerous posts asking over and over and over if there are going to be any store closures today or this week or this month.

Adding: Numerous other closing stores are still listed.

That Hometown Store's page has disappeared entirely. Did it suddenly close earlier than announced?

No offense, but we can't necessarily take one franchisees word for it that they are all closing. They might very well be but I'm not 10p% sure just yet.

Anyone surprised? Good riddance. Like one of their earlier facebook posts indicated, potential customers were really disappointed with the store.....apparently they couldn't keep the place stocked with merchandise. I'm sure that was just one issue for all of the Hometown stores. I feel bad for all the owners who invested their time & money in such a waste.

It wouldn’t surprise me. Clearly, there isn’t a future for these stores.
