Well, you're about to be proven wrong. If this goes through, there will be major cuts. Since cuts cost money, expect to see severance reach the bare minimum. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they said no severance at all. Once they get rid of the majority of employees, the rest will be expected to pick up all the work. There will be no increase in pay, of course. We're entering the nightmare scenario I was afraid of.

From experience, when Broadcom does a mass layoff the payouts are nice and generous. If you are a single employee getting terminated later, then the payouts are minimum.
