Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Why are old customers switching from Boeing to Airbus?

What are your thoughts, what are the main drivers for this?

Pilots of this century greatly prefer the Airbus flight deck philosophy over the outdated Boeing flight deck. So any pilot led airline will buy Airbus if price doesn't become a limiting factor. Any airline that is not pilot led is best avoided just like any airplane manufacturer that is not licensed professional engineer led is best avoided.

The biggest selling point for Boeing was there safety record. Their safety reputation was damaged with the 737 max and now customers and passengers question their commitment to safety. Safety is the most important factor in aviation but Boeing put cutting costs as the most important factor now you see the results.

Because Boeing lost the recipe to build aircraft....

The only significant Boeing sales in recent years have been to airlines who's future is tied to Boeing's future because they only have Boeing airplanes. These airlines would now also buy Airbus airplanes if they could but the Airbus backlog is now huge and they wouldn't get them for nearly 10 years. Plus they desperately need to save face. If they signaled they lost faith in Boeing, they would further hasten Boeing's bankruptcy and their subsequent bankruptcy.

If Airbus can increase their production rate and significantly shorten this delay, you will even see currently 100% Boeing airplane airlines switching to Airbus or possibly even switching to COMAC airplanes in the coming years. For example, Southwest and COMAC have already had some dialog.

Boeing airplanes are obsolete design. Not as safe or as easy to fly by the less experienced pilots that now fly them compared to 50 years ago when they were originally designed. Boeing planes still have yokes and lack the advanced FBW protection available from Airbus. Plus airlines sense that Boeing is headed to bankruptcy and unless they give away their airplanes to them, it makes little sense to have Boeing airplanes that will lose much market value when this happens.

In the "old days" company headquarters was adjacent to the factory in Seattle. The CEO and other high-level officers could hear and see the planes. Some would walk the factory aisles and talk to the workers. Leadership had been promoted from within. The headquarters move isolated and insulated the new leaders from issues faced by the engineers and mechanics.

It's a bidirectional process, some Airbus customers are switching to us.
