Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Not even pretending to care

Long service veteran employee working in a store of managers that don’t even pretend to care about their staff or the condition of the store. Once again my manager goes off on vacation without telling the team or having a workload plan. When we accidentally find out and confront…the response is haha…I’m on vacation…good luck. Is this the new normal at Macys?

Macys stores vary by who the store is led by. Unfortunately my “experiential” store in New England is led by a 20 something with little experience in both leadership, operations or merchandising. This store leader is totally oblivious and uses the guise of work life balance…..to take time off constantly. This leader uses empty cheerfulness and thank you’s , thinking that’s a motivator and enough while we are surrounded by a mess. This store leader lacks the strength ,experience or commitment to run a respectable store and leads by taking time off as much as possible, running out the door under work life balance mantra. The experienced associates are appalled, discouraged and demotivated. The store is a mess and sometimes unsafe in the back of house and on the selling floor. The director of stores appears to turn a blind eye as she placed him in the position. A recent visit by the northeast district proved how ridiculous ,not innovative, blind ,this group is…..we had an army of folks patch things up before the visit. ….The district director commented at the rally…they were here to learn. I’m guessing they learned nothing and cost the company travel expenses. Guess it’s too much to ask for an old tired dept store chain to make a very sincere effort to run better stores…with the same old tired executives….mostly concerned with preserving their own paychecks….riding things out till a package…while they hire mediocre new executives…not coaching them or holding them accountable for leading a once committed group of associates. I believe Macys survives mostly thru lack of competition and the lowered expectations of customers.

Most of the stores that are falling apart are the Foley's stores.

Apparently your store ma ager doesn't care that the OOM didn't have a workload plan? Do you have a weekly workload planning meeting?? My store does and we always k ow what's coming.

TOTALLY agree with the previous comment. A store can be a part of a huge company, but it's the people inside the 4 walls that make a diffetence!!! Yes my store has struggles as well but we adjust and make changes. We pretty much think of our store as our own. We may not be at a "corporate level" looking store but we make it look decent and clean. Stores that are dreadful/miserable can only blame themselves.

Hmm, I must be in a "not norm" stotre. The store I work at looks clean, organized and isn't having issues with elevators/escalators. Don't get me wrong, we got "go backs", low staffing and not the same assortmant that "Inspirational" stores have, but we seem to be making the numbers! Our CS scores are high and we open credit when we need to. Our Executive team is a mix of old and new as well as our colleagues. I was told 10+ years ago that "You shouldn't be the reason why your store fails". I believe that mantra is what keeps our store going. I feel terrible that there are many stores that just "give up".

It's time to call your local fire department, so they could send a fire marshal or fire inspector to do a inspection on those stores. All those things happening is a safety issues for customers and employees. What else might be happening that nobody knows.

This is the only thing that Jeff Gannett cares about.

As Chief Executive Officer at MACY'S INC, Jeff Gennette made $11,813,102 in total compensation. Of this total $1,300,000 was received as a salary, $3,315,000 was received as a bonus, $0 was received in stock options, $7,096,408 was awarded as stock and $101,694 came from other types of compensation. This information is according to proxy statements filed for the 2021 fiscal year.

The stores are filthy and falling apart and Jeffrey made $11.8 MILLION DOLLARS IN 2021.

Wow! Our store in South Texas is going through the same thing. The building in our store is 45 years old. The store is breaking down little by little. Both stairway aren't working and the floor elevator and freight elevator isn't working either. The ceiling in sales floor is breaking down too and the A/C is just started to break down. The condition of the store is horrible. This mother's day weekend was brutal.

It's truly sad, this once was a great classy retail store to shop...it's truly drowning, sinking slowly like the Titanic ship and nobody has any cares about it...I'm convinced that this really does happen at every Macy's...it's always the Management too.

Yup this is the new culture of Macy's. Our store is breaking down the stairways and elevator isn't working. It's been like this for months even the roof top of the sales floor is started to break down. Everyday customers are complaining because they have to walk up and down the stairway. Lately there's have been several accidents reported in our store. Also not even the freight elevator won't work either, it's been like this for a couple of weeks. Associates processing the truck and later in the day taking it upstairs by hand. I'm guessing this is the new normal, nobody cares as long the work gets done.

Yes. New normal. No one cares as long as the grunts get the work done. Everyone is phoning it in. Store management on up. Nation wide. Every business
