Things started going downhill long ago

Of course the reason why the hy-vee went downhill is not just one, there are many. What would you say are the biggest?

It's not that they can't sell certain items. It's that they either forgot how or refuse to try.
Your entire premise is flawed in my opinion.

Hy-Vee forgetting it’s primarily a grocery store and not a “destination”. That bad decision led to loss of store autonomy and everyone being forced to stock items that don’t sell, affecting those stores’ bottom lines. Hy-Vee needs to worry less about celebrity endorsements and more about giving customers what they truly want - quality products and stellar customer service. It’s tough to be that “smile in every aisle” when you’re working so short staffed, nothing is accomplished except running in circles, doing a little here, a little there.

What's happened in the last 12 days?
Honestly asking since I no longer work for Hy-Vee

Randy is the reason why HyVee is going down hill! Dude just can’t learn from his mistakes. I think its his ego that has gotten HyVee in the situation. Randy needs to put aside his pride and ego when it comes to new ideas. First of all, change is a good thing. Randy likes to come up with new ideas which I think is awesome but sometimes not all of his ideas are great for profit. He needs to recognize when a new idea isn't profitable and not to double down on bad ideas. Don’t throw good money at bad ideas. We all know that when Randy comes up with an idea he won’t let it go and will cost the company millions of dollars. Randy if you had yourself as a boss you would have fired yourself already.
