Both to layoffs and attrition?

My immediate supervisor was let go last week. Out team received a short note stating this person was "leaving effective immediately" as if they had been fired on the spot and walked out by security which we found out was not the case. No thanks for your efforts after 7+ years, nothing. When bad managers are allowed to stay too long, and the good ones are let go this way, it's cold.
