Thread regarding BNSF Railway layoffs

Train workers are quitting en masse

UPDATE: Leaked internal data shows that train workers are quitting en masse to protest railroad giant BNSF's extreme new time-off policy.

The policy eliminates ALL time off including weekends, except 1 day per month.

Their union is calling on @SecretaryPete
to investigate BNSF.

Ms. Farmer has really taken BNSF to the bottom. I worked at the old BN as a road brakeman in the 89’s. While not perfect, we could generally layoff when we wanted to under most circumstances. Front line managers were almost always experienced train crew people so not do much of the college grad trying to tell us how to operate the railroad.

Tons more will quit, they are just waiting to see how bad this next contract really is. Then the new hires will see just how bad it is and also quit. I wonder if ol warren will claim ignorance and toss the blame on Katy and co. Things are just getting started… grab some popcorn!

This company don’t wanna pay, and they don’t want employees to have any time off. Everyone is quitting. I think it’s funny.

Some places I've seen people go at my terminal... Logistics and operations at the power plant, truck driver, truck/warehouse dispatch, garbage truck driver, public transit (light rail and bus), city water department, UPS, Amazon. Granted this is in the big city but hopefully it gives you some ideas.

UP is looking to hire felons to fill job openings. Only a matter of time before BNSF does the same. What's the difference between prison and working for a class 1?

If you find a good gig make sure you check-in with your railroad brothers and sisters and help them find a new job too! References are huge.

It’s the same over here with the yellow big one. I can tell you in my terminal alone in the past yr 20+ ppl have left and many more are leaving in the next months, plus the ones that are retiring too. Many of the ones that just got up and left were lifers w/ 17-20yr of service. It’s bad all across class 1s

It's not just the train employees. Many vacancies in all departments. Big names in management are also running for the exit. Not even hiring bonuses are attracting applicants. Cat is out of the bag about how horrible BNSF treats its employees. It's almost like they want people to quit! Many of my former co-workers are now doing bigger and better things and making more money too! Time to polish up the resume and move on.
