Behind on processing and placing trucks. Floors tight and a mess. You can feel that most of the employees are tired and had enough. Manager merchandiser not doing any work barely showing up for her shifts and showing up late. My manager says she’s going to do something never do it. Schedules are a mess. A lot of callouts so one person would be on a floor smh. I mean how they going to combine selling when we barely have hands in the store with a manager that don’t care.
Not trying to be little miss sunshine, but actually sales wise pretty well. Every weekend top 3-4 in our district. I have the foot and back pain to prove it.
Fulfillment is behind 4 to 6 days. If you place an order it says processing for up to a week. Our operations leader is cheating the system. She is making us print the shipping labels as soon as the merchandise is picked and attache the shipping labels to merchandise unpacked. We have racks and racks of merchandise with labels printed that has not yet been packed. Customers are complaining but nobody seems to care. Our stores fulfillment numbers look great on paper but it is in a shambles in reality.
Our store leader condones this by singing the Ops managers praises in the morning Rah-Rah sessions.
And we wonder why Macy’s has a reputation of an unethical company.
Merchandise everywhere and trashy customers. No one cleans up or restocks ever. Sometimes someone pushes a cart of merchandise out to the floor and customers look through junk on the cart, but mostly it just sits there.
I am currently at a store where everyone seems to be turning against each other instead of coming together. You have the “younger” managers vs “tenured” managers . Younger managers walking around smiling all day doing nothing while their people
gossip about what a joke they are and how they do or know nothing.
Then you have tenured managers that know how to educate encourage engage their staff and make results happen. They are stressed and feel like the weight of the store is on them and are becoming increasingly disengaged because they are doing all the work with little to no recognition while these young managers walk around in their denim and layering piece with a Starbucks in hand.
I live in this group of “tenured” managers. Im not 25 but I’m not 50 either, I’m marketable and talented so why do I stay? Question I’ve been pondering lately and I think I’m ready finally to move on. And will be doing so before ISM week 1 launch.
I work in the mens clothing/furnishings area and I can’t tell you how much business we lose everyday by not having basic menswear. No black suits in 40,42,44, no Jockey White t-shirts in L, XL, no basic briefs, white shirts, black belts. If we do get them in they are pulled immediately by fulfillment.
Management needs to wake up and fix the mens area. When a customer comes if for to buy a black suit for a funeral they need it today. Same with special occasions they need it in a timely fashion. We walk business every single day. Customers don’t want all the brown, burgundy and colored suits they want good quality black, navy, gray . They do not want Charter Club or Alfani underwear they want Jockey or a brand name. Why can’t we have basic mens underwear in stock??? This should be a no brainer for a department store.
The mens area in our store is pitiful.
I have no problem with hiring young managers the problem is that these youngsters do not want to do any physical work. They walk around pointing and smiling but refuse to get their hands dirty. Some of the problem is that the store manager allows them to sit in the office most of the day on the computer while the store is a mess. The limited number of associates are expected to do absolutely everything.
The older managers who do work are being forced out and this is definitely age discrimination at its best. Hopefully someone who was forced out will blow the whistle on this unethical company.
If Macy’s thinks that they are hip they need a dose of reality. The stores are old, dowdy and furry. The merchandise assortments are low end and definitely not fashion forward. Macy’s chased away the upper moderate and better customers by dropping many designer name brands. Other than INC nobody wants the poorly designed and bad quality of Macy’s private brands.
It is a shame what has happened to Macy’s in the past ten years.
To the posters who talked about the new young and inexperienced kid managers they are hiring. It must be a trend. Same in my store. They aren’t good managers and don’t work, know absolutely nothing about Macys or management. I don’t know how they were hired in the first place. Macys want to be young and hip, I guess but they aren’t a young store. Most of the clothes they sell especially in RTW are very old lady grandma styles.

We're a small store. We rarely make plan and we were down over 150 credits last month. We usually have 7 or 8 racks of go-backs every day in RTW despite only having one fitting room open on the floor (one is kept closed because there is no longer a register there, it's being used as storage for parts for our escalator which has been down for almost a year, and it also where captains sort the go-backs; the other is closed because the only associate scheduled in the department is a "germaphobe" and afraid of catching COVID from people's clothes but has no problem going maskless as soon as she's in the tiny break room). RTW is absolutely trashed every single day and no one, sales colleagues or captains, does any recovery. There's hangers and clothes all over the floor and draped across fixtures, every single fixture surrounding a price checker is bursting with things customers have left, hangers are sticking out on fixtures at 45 degree angles everywhere, and every time I go to put out new stock I end up with at least 6-10 things I had to take off just one arm of a fixture because they don't belong there.
In 13 years I have never seen my store look so awful. Even during one year when we had 50+ racks of go-backs--back then we even still had recovery and fitting room associates--the store was not as much of a disaster as it is now.
They are hiring young inexperienced managers who walk around smiling and refuse to any physical work.
Experienced employees are leaving in droves.
Most new hires stay a short while and leave. And the new hires that do stay are useless and play in their phones while the kid managers walk by smiling.
Our dock is full of unprocessed merchandise from two weeks ago.
The store is filthy dirty. Unvacumed carpets, dust ba--s everywhere, disgusting restrooms, fitting rooms loaded with merchandise, clothing on the floor, racks and racks of go back merchandise, broken fixtures with poor quality non branded merchandise.
The shoplifters continue to have a field day since LP is not allowed to stop them.
We have our daily rah rah session and the manager tries to talk up the innovative selling and tells us how much fun it going to be. We all just roll our eyes.
Other than that all is well in this joke of a company.
They are ruthless leaders, only care about themselves and you are reminded constantly that you are just a replaceable colleague..
Same sh-t different day don’t you care at Macy’s any more?
Junk merchandise, and customers who are pure trash. About sums it up. We have no name brands anymore, so most of our higher end customers have switched to Dillard's which is doing well. We've lost most of our good staff to them. I honestly can't see us making it past the end of the year. Our sales are down something like $6 million a year vs. just 5 years ago. Meanwhile, we heard Dillard's had another record breaking year. The writing is on the wall.
"People didn't want to work"
No, people didn't want to work for your sh-t hours and sh-t pay. The only people left at Macy's are people who were too stupid to get a better job elsewhere.
I work in a big store. We are doing ok, much better than last year when we barely had any workers and people didn’t want to work and wanted to collect the extra $300 from unemployment.
Our management team though has downgraded heavily. They are hiring people they like and it only seems to me they are going for more and more younger managers and doing age discrimination. A lot of the new managers are like kids that worked for a few months at Macys and all of a sudden they are promoted because someone liked them. They have no experience and know nothing about Macys. It’s frustrating. It’s better to promote from within. It should either be people who have worked at Macys a long time or if it’s a person outside of Macys, they should have experience in management.
