Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Layoffs would be a godsend

At this point, it would only help those of us who're planning to leave but either haven't been able to land a new job yet or are still scared to take that step. Judging by the people around me, there is a lot of us. When the next layoff round is announced, for the first time I'll be hoping that I've been selected to be cut.

If I was presented with a layoff package I’d take it. I could do with a month or two rest before moving on to the next job.

My layoffs have all worked out great. A layoff from Citi would be icing on the cake, assuming there is a decent severance package. I'm one of those people looking at retirement. Major thing stopping me is COVID. I'm afraid it's not done with us yet. What's the point of retiring if you can't do anything because of a lockdown?

I don’t want one but I also don’t fear one either. What would I do? Be proactive, update your resume and LinkedIn profile NOW while you’re not in panic mode. Also set your job search engine filters to what you’re looking for. If it happens, give yourself some breathing room and decompress for at least a few days. Mentally detox.
Instead of 8 hours of working, your job now is finding a job. Still get up at the same time, devote the 8 hours you’d normally spend working, spend those 8 on looking for a job every day. Research the companies that interest you, mission statements, history etc….apply for positions that fit. DON’T wait around to hear back. Apply elsewhere. Even if you hear back from them still apply elsewhere as nowadays it can take weeks\months to hear anything.

Layoffs are not fun. You're out of a job for who knows how long? I would rather leave on my own rather than wait or hope for a layoff. Unless you're close to retirement, or you're very young, I can understand. Once you're over 30, and I am being generous with 30, it gets harder to find a job.
Be very careful what you wish for. I never wanted or wished for a layoff.
