Thread regarding Ford layoffs

SRD 2.0 Layoffs are coming!

Folks who are on ICE Team move fast and move far. Either learn new skills or get fired.

Folks in Product Development once again will take the fall as if PD doesn’t produce any value to the company. Expected 5% cuts.

Probably ford will build tablets or Phones some day looking at the hiring, Compensation and budgets given to Software/ IT/ Electronics teams.

@yxz I had to laugh. You describe my situation from 2007-2017 at the largest retail company here in the USA. The first 3 years were decent. Then, when Amazon zipped right by them as if they were standing still is when they took action. Constant restructuring and layoffs for my last 7 years. All the usual reasons: make too much $, ageism, used too much of your health benefits (they were self-insured), etc.

Seven years of employees waiting for that anonymous e-mail to be sent to them late on a Wednesday night so it was one of the first things you would see on Thursday morning indicating that you needed to be at a certain conference room at a specific time to be told the 'bad' news.

Many of the unlucky ones got to stay as they trained others on their team in their duties only to be given a poor performance review for no other reason to get rid of them.

As for me, I left on my own after 10 years, 7 years of this he-l, dealing with the stress of whether you'd get that email and being relieved on Friday, relaxing on Saturday and then the stress building back up on Sunday in anticipation of the coming week. And when I left, I joined Ford in 2017 only to be part of the SRD in 2019. SMH...

So muddled and confusing. Farley first said ICE would be the target of the $3B in cuts and now Hau strongly implied in our meeting it's the company. He all but said people would be cut when asked and acknowledged that we had a $2B task under Moonbeam and now it's $3B- 50% more. Have to find efficiencies blah, blah, blah.... More of the same in having to fund the growth areas. Not only did they not point to ICE but they also said they would be moving ICE engineers to Mach e.

It doesn't leave much to the imagination, folks. The cuts are going to be companywide the way I see it and they will be deep. There will be so much cutthroat around all of this and scared behavior in ICE and probably everywhere else. With cuts all but guaranteed, how do they think they're going to get this high collaboration, effective, efficient work streams between the two, etc? I've been with the company for over 20 years, and this is the most egregious example of direct threats and bullying from the C-Suite I've ever seen. It's absolutely all about pleasing Wall Street when English just bought $750k in Ford stock and Bill is buying all he can. Not hard to figure out and it's not to celebrate this.

5% is just a rounding error on the spreadsheet and will not make any difference.

ICE headcount will be reduced by 25-35% as there are no new programs planned with gas engines. After that, ICE will be a slow bleed-off of remaining support as existing product ages and sales grind down.

UAW will have to take a hit too as the simpler EV platforms will require less assembly operations.

It is going to be ugly - but change alway is.

Since when have Ford SRDs been about skills?
Every school boy knows they are about how to best preserve the Ford oligarchy while giving Wall Street the illusion that they are up-skilling
The more highly skilled, knowledgeable and respected you are, the more likely you are to be SRD.

Ask yourself if you want to spend your career at a place where you are constantly worried about the next axe, and have to continually underperform to stay out off the crosshairs of jealous mean spirited coworkers and managers.
