The biggest reason I'm thinking of leaving is because I've had a stagnant role here for a long time. No matter how much I work, no matter how hard I try, I cannot make any career progress. Why is that so? I have a lot of friends at other companies in the industry and it seems like it’s possible to advance one's career almost everywhere except here.

It’s been made abundantly clear that we are a flat organization. Career progression isn’t going to happen as we want to keep g&a flat for many reasons.
Either you accept that or should look to move on with your career elsewhere. Many great and ambitious people have left over the years and the company accepts that and isn’t going to change.
Learning to "progress" yourself is a life skill that you will appreciate! You stated, you see other friends and companies progressing...then progress yourself, especially if management is not recognizing performance.
As you can see from the org chart this morning, 99% of the promotions were where the managers promoted themselves. Nobody cares about the employees doing the work.
Sure bonuses were good, but career progression is just as important.
