Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Honest question. How is ENB planning to retain talent? Raises are weak. Benefits are falling behind. Competition w hiring STEM workers is FIERCE

Is there a plan you think? Other than 'let's hope sh-t doesn't hit the fan and people jump ship'?

My guess is that they will be reactionary. They will realize that talent is leaving and attracting new talent is getting harder by the day. So they try to adapt, but it will be too little and too late. This could bankrupt them if they don't act soon.

You act like people weren't marching for a lot of these same things 50 years ago. But pretending "the man" is a new idea is kind of silly. You don't call them "squares" but it's all the same.

Evidence that you have one trick would be nice. :) I was born 20 years too late to be called a boomer.

In all seriousness, I didn't come from wealth. When I was a kid, my dad cut hair, my mom worked at the post office, and we lived in a trailer. They were boomers. My father became a heavy equipment mechanic, my mom a general manager, and they retired comfortably.

So yeah. When I hear somebody complaining loudly that their relatively cushy job is somehow a disservice to them, I can't help but think less of them.

You are not the downtrodden, abused masses. Step out of your bubbles.

There has been zero turnover in Infrastructure Planning, so clearly Enbridge is doing excellent in retaining 100% of the actual talent that matters.

The post below from @1zay+1fy8xU48 reads like something my rural living 70-year-old boomer parents would write online. They get their information from Fox News, the Rebel, and Jason Kenney. They are also both incredibly racist.

Amusing how baby boomers act like they have done the next generations some massive favor... Like unattainable real estate, massive student loan debt, consumer debt, corporate greed, environmental destruction, world war. Just pull up your bootstraps kids and quit whining. Snowflakes. Call them out on any of this stuff and they lose their minds... kind of turn into snowflakes. Sensitive lot they are.

Yeah, I'm sure that will work out splendidly. After all, the younger generations are doing everything so much better, like art, music, movies, civil discourse, tolerance, acceptance, cooperation... 'Boomer here' - Well then I hope you're advocating for more pay and more WFH flexibility. If not, you'll be watching your talent evaporate in the next year or two. So many young talented workers have been successfully working from home, they aren't willing to accept a majority of their time back in the office. It's hilariously easy for a company offering full WFH flexibility to attract and retain talent. And you know where they're leaving? From slow dinosaurs like ENB.

Lost a house and all my savings in the great recession.
No one bailed me out. My retirement plan is to work until I'm dead, thanks.

Eh. Most of these young (green) engineers come from privileged families and have a comfortable safety net they can fall back on. There is a slogan: Born on third base while believing they hit a triple. Unless someone doesn't have Mom or Dads connections, put your nose down and be humble kiddo.

Don't forget a legitimate WFH policy. Talented/in demand millennials/gen Z will laugh at companies who won't accommodate them with a flexible work schedule, and it is the companies who will lose. This is isn't 1988. The number of them who will put their noses down and just work in an office 5 days are week will be few and far between. Many here will scoff at this post but this is reality and Enbridge and the majority of companies in Calgary will blow it.

If you're a petrochemical engineer, you're not really interested in what STEM workers are doing. You need to know what petrochemical engineers are up to. STEM isn't a field - it's an educational description. And statistics on STEM employment would be useless as a comparative metric.

Well, you say that... but these claims are all so general they can't be verified. At all. And that's clearly by design. It's a running theme in these forums. Make broad claims with no specifics, pat each other on the back, and downvote anybody who asks about your numbers.

You don't measure raises against inflation. You measure them against other raises. "Cost of living adjustment" is a discontinued term.

I don't know what raises in benefits you speak of.

Retain talent?? Get over yourself, the gas will keep flowing with or without you. Are you worried about another natural gas distributor snatching the legends up? We are a monopoly, put up with the nepotism, and unqualified supervisors, or move on.

Benefits are falling behind for the same reasons. ENB is slow to change anything, including benefits and pay. Their competitors are being ruthless right now, raising wages and increasing benefits, because they KNOW its a cut throat hiring market right now. Slow to adapt. Quick to die.

I mean.. id love to be wrong, but when has ENB ever been known to quickly adapt to change that they don't like?

Maybe not bankrupt them, but certain cost them more money. There are tons of useless fat in middle management at LUG, they need to be dealt with first. Especially in dist ops
