Congratulations UP, the new hire stayed just over two weeks! No wonder he couldn't last a whole month here. It seems to me that UP has never had a bigger problem with hiring new people? In addition, I think the situation will become even more difficult because less and less people will want to come and stay here.

UP doe not want to retain experience. They don’t want to pay for it. Bring in the young g-ns who can change the world. They make the money and have no clue what a railroad is. So sick of the cr*p UP spews. We just have to remember… WE’RE #1!
Newbies are quitting within 60 days where I’m at. Apparently nobody told these guys that switchman work their rear ends off in dangerous conditions. Rain, snow, cold, heat. It’s going to be a sad situation in a year or two with all the people leaving this place.
Managers are asking employees to volunteer for TikTok videos used for employee recruiting.
Has any railroad EVER gone to a foamer convention to troll for new hires ? Seems logical to me, but maybe that is why they don’t do it. Maybe they could superimpose the prospective employees face on an hog head body in a video or something, right ? “This can be YOU !”
UP just sucks!
The other companies having trouble hiring employees are mostly minimum wage paying small businesses. The reason UP can’t hire anyone for a six figure paying job with no high school diploma required is because and repeat after me: THEY ARE UNION PACIFIC AND THEY’VE BEEN RATED THE WORST COMPANY TO WORK FOR 3 YEARS IN A ROW!
I hate UP also, but the same thing is happening with many companies all over the United States. Many companies are having a hard time hiring and retaining employees.
Only thing keeping folks here are the 10 plus year employees. We've stuck it out long enough to get a decent amount of vacation and seniority. I for see newly hired people not taking the bu-----t for what it's worth. If this up coming contract gets worse than previous prob be more leaving as well.
Working at UP = toxic s***ho-e.
