Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

A way to move up

All my effort was in vain, I'm still in the same position and I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that there is no way for me to move up. I'm just stagnating here. It seems that for most the only way to move up is to go to another company?

Find another job. G.E. is not worth moving for anymore. Stay in a area you wish to be . Things will work out for you in the end. Feel worthy.

Trying to move up in a shrinking organization is a little like running upwards on the down escalator. It's tough. I agree with the advice above to move laterally every few years and if you're lucky you'll land in a place where people like your style and they'll move you up. In the meantime you learn a lot about the organization and hopefully can grow your worth. Not to say you shouldn't look outside, but it seems you like working for GE. Good luck!

Start putting the word out in your sphere of influence (friends, family, acquaintances) you are interested in changing jobs. Work hard at this and ask everyone to ask ones they know. Follow up with them. Keep working at GE in the meantime, something will eventually turn up. Good Luck!

Check one of those “diversity” boxes and the sky’s the limit.

Stagnation & being unappreciated and overlooked are a reality; If that's the case, don't waste your time. I was told I was a job-hopper, but it was exactly that which allowed me to forge a path forward both professionally and financially. Being single makes doing this much easier, as your responsible for yourself, but I know quite a few individuals that were married with kids that took the leap. Believe in yourself!

Unfortunately, sounds like the time to update your resume and brush up on your interviewing skills. Just like how they say Job-hopping looks bad on a resume, Job Stagnation could hurt your marketability internally and externally too. Career coaches say that being in the same role for more than 5 years and without any lateral movement could hurt careers. I say go with your gut feeling and start looking because you are most likely correct on how you are feeling. Having the thought of being stagnate is a sign your People Leader is failing you. Go get the promo and money you deserve!

Moving is the only way to move up if you can stand the change. It may not be the only way but it is certainly the fastest. You can always start a side hustle if you are looking for a challenge or some extra cash.

Well yeah! Life is hard. If you dont move, it will be too late.. To put it bluntly : You are responsible for your growth and career, nobody else cares unless it benefits them too!
