Thinking about suing Shell for emotional distress.
I have never gone to a therapist, so I can’t claim that I’m in a very bad state of mental health. What I can say is that I have never felt so stressed and depressed in my life before with the uncertainty of my role and double amount of workloads. My line doesn’t give a f about us, same as all the senior leaders. It is absolutely a mental abuse being put in a JG99 position for more than a year. It forces you to work as hard as you can including night and weekend by providing the minimum hope that you need to keep going.
Being a strong performance for more than 15 years of career, I feel like I’m being punished for no reason (or maybe my race is the issue?)
I’m actively applying externally because I don’t want to stay in (s)he-l anymore, but meanwhile, I am seriously considering suing Shell for the mental abuse. Does anyone know anything about a success case before?

Being punished for having a job and getting paid well for it ? I think there are some people in the real world who would like to trade with you ..... See a shrink and learn how to see things from the bright side .....
I am sorry to read of your distress. I chose to exit the company due to its toxic culture and reshape nonsense…you aren’t crazy. Could no longer work for a company that continuously abused its employees via reorganizing every few months while promoting unethical incompetents to destroy culture further.
As a long time leader that owns several businesses, I offer the following:
A. Get professional help - not for claims or lawsuits, but for your own well-being. No work or company is worth your life.
B. Document your journey - a documentation trail of your emotional health (personal observations, doctor visits, physical health ailments, etc.,) is important if you do make a claim. A settlement is a likely outcome unless you do receive a severance.
- Make a plan - obviously, you aren’t living the life you want. Even if you secured a next role, do you REALLY want to work for a company that devalued and emotionally abused you? Get your resume and finances in order. Decide what you want and go after it. Life is short and you can do it.
One reader out here rooting for your success - take care!
You need to see a therapist for actual prove that your career is harming your mental health. Then take that prove to see a lawyer and let them decide what you should do.
I hope you have a strong case against Shell. Someone needs to fight back so that those a-s kissers will learn to not treat us like sh-t.
What happens to JG99’s if no job is found? Will they get the same severance package as the last exit group if no job is found within before the end of 2022?
Your full-time job as a JG99 should be to find another role. They company told you, "They don't need you," doing your role anymore by hanging the sword over your head.
Also consider FMLA. It's unpaid but there may be some interesting timing considerations... I wouldn't make it easy on the company forcing you out.
I mean disinterested.
If they are giving you false hope, shame on them. I wouldn't trust it. Go find something else now so your mental health will improve soon. Forget the package....your health is not worth it.,
And no, folks, before you send a wisecrack reply, I am not from HR. I am an uninterested observer that faced the same situation two employers ago before I joined Shell.
Yeah, you're not a prisoner. You won't be winning any lawsuits for emotional distress from a job you CHOOSE to work every day.
JG99 means you’re in a role that will phase out after a certain period of time - I think most run through 2022. Which basically means you’ll need to post MOR and find a new role at some point this year…

There are many cases where people sued and won. In Europe in the mid 2000s the de-expating of Europeans with a life expat contract for one. I know 2 faces and the people won millions and were slapped with an NDA. Mental anguish probably doesn't count since you cannot prove it on paper though. Get an employment lawyer and some advice.
What does JG99 mean? Is that like JG G?
**** whoever came up with the JG99 idea. Like why put staff through the misery of constantly having your job dangled in front of you? Just lay off the correct number of people and move on.
Your soul
I have heard suing happen before but it usually went silence very quickly. Two possible outcomes: 1) the person realized there’s not enough evidence to build a strong case against a big corporation, or 2) Shell pays you a big fat check to sign a NDA to avoid bad publicity.
If you are leaving Shell, what’s there to lose?
