As inconvenient as being laid off was when it happened, it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me. Today I have a much better job with better pay and benefits and the improvement in culture is drastic. There is light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

yes, if you are close to retirement or just 2 years or 3 years that way, hang in there as long as you can and get the package before layoff. by the way, thick skin is very important during this time, use whatever possible to delay, my experience is that they will settle with you and hence you will get a nice payout including back salary and bonus.. that is owed. if it comes down.. this is if you/them get in a fight, usually you stay under the radar, then it will be fine.. age discrimination and etc.. HR has a formula to calculate the risk , if you are young, then by all means do what you can, I still suggest get the package before leave, that is free $..
