I give it ten years and everything will be sold regardless.
If you want to see what happens to GE with the split just look at LC's old company Danaher. Stockholders and Larry did well but employees lost jobs by the hundreds. Look at spinoff Tektronic. Healthcare will have the biggest layoffs as they transform. Aviation will do lot of consolidation at rooftop changes. Power is still up in the air as they still don't know how to piece it up.
I don't think Schenectady will suffer from major cuts as we know it. I think the hardest hit will be from it being reorganized from what we currently know it as. The number of needed employees is up in the air but I can see a decent number close to if not more than what there is now. What I don't believe will stay is the high dollar, high tech jobs. I think you'll see the whole facility become as low tech as possible and the wages will fit accordingly.
D-mb a-s post....think "shareholders", how can they maximize their take. If breaking GE into 3 pieces is the answer that will (and should happen). Yes, a private equity team will cut hard and trim fat (cost = headcount) as GE should have.
The Golden Rule: He who has the gold, makes the rules. The protest is in vain. After the split, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For the upper management, grins and riches.
What a joke a protest will not stop GE from splitting. They do not care about us (the work force) at all. The only thing GE cares about is the bottom nickel on their revenue and profit lines. Get ready for big restructuring in the coming days months and over the next year or 2. Schenectady is going to get hit the hardest both 273 and 66 will have major cuts.
