Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Make your manager look good

I've been convinced numerous times that the general rule at TD is that those who have vast knowledge and skills will not be here for very long because they intimidate their less knowledgeable managers.

It is never a good idea to show yourself to be more capable than you manager. I'm just shocked at what kind of people ended up leaving this company just because of that.

Yeah, we should get rid of all the people that have been able to position, sell, deliver and grow our accounts over the years.

That seems like an excellent RIF focused ‘improvement’ opportunity for the next new strategy.

My manager understands me. We've got people in my team with all sorts of life challenges at the moment with cancer, divorce or others applying for other roles in the company. He covers everyone to make sure we are ok. He knows he ain't the smartest guy in the room but he knows that isn't his role. He tells us that hus job is to make us successful and that is really helpful to know.

Sounds rough. Can't say I have experienced it or seen it first hand. A lot of folks in my Org know the management may not be SMEs for their areas but know how to raise each other up to help make calls for the team. They are good managers and leaders, and I think that is why our turn over rate is so very low when we are working so much.

Best of luck to ya. People are people with complicated lives of their own. I would advise sitting down with your management and getting a feel for how to make each other's lives better. We are spending 8+ hours, 5 days a week with each other (sometimes more...), so it's best to learn how to set boundaries, learn to talk with one and another, and how we wished to be talked to.
