Unless you live under a rock, you know massive layoffs are coming. Companies are not acquired because everything is rainbows and unicorns. It is because the people buying it can profit from it. First, they take what equity they can to cover the purchase price. That is all of those unvested benefits you no longer have. Second, go for the next low hanging fruit: employees. If they need to go after other places for money, they can sell pieces of the business off to competitors.
Execs do not care because they already have theirs. They get their big buyouts regardless.
Worker: Getting ready to lube up because the shaft is coming. Seriously look at anything and everything that is not vested. Everyone of those will be wiped out: Future HSA, stock options, other compensations, etc. If you can see it and it say unvested, it is gone. The market is still hot in RTP where I was recruited. Best to find a job now while getting paid still before being given walking papers.
