It seems quite certain that there will be significant cuts. The only question now is whether to start actively looking for other opportunities or take a little risk and wait for the package? I think that the package won't be so generous that it would be worth spending time here. Many will probably leave before the acquisition is complete.

For those in IT, I wouldn't fret about finding another job. It will most likely be a case they find you. I was a part of the November RIF. Severance was nice and definitely helped for the 2 month period I was not working. During the holiday season, the job market is usually dead - no one really looking. That was not what I witnessed. I have never seen such a job market like what I saw and is still going on. I'm still getting phone calls and emails. I only had to upload my resume to Indeed and that's all it took. I did that a month after being let go - wanted to take some time for myself. 2 to 3 weeks later interviewed with the only job I actually applied for. Ignored all the job opportunity emails and phone calls - and there were many - still are. Had a second interview with the company and team and that was it - 24 hours later hired - 100% remote. And I'm not the upper crust in IT but I can tell you - the job market is fantastic even for older folks - strike while you can. Conditions are such that you get to choose what you do next - not the job market - a job seeker's market for sure!
It generally takes so much longer to find a job when you don't already have one... that it seems like it would be silly to not start your search and gtfo early if you can.
I’m looking as well. We’re merging with Tibco so I assume we’d get tibco packages and from what I’ve read. It was 1 week per year. No thanks! I got one foot out the door. FU ELT
I am certain the package won't be as good under the new management. It can also take a good 2 months from intial recruiter conversation to final offer. It would allocate 4 months to get a job if you are laid off. Can you afford to pay your living expenses + expensive Cobra with the package for 4 months? I can't so for me, it makes sense to start looking now.
BTW, you can Google search how long it took Vista to close on previously announced deals. It seems to be between 3-4 months. So if I were to guess, Vista could close the Citrix deal between May-June and weeks after, they begin their layoffs. I would want to have my new job lined up by May the latest.
