Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

It's all rigged

Even if you are the best choice you won't get the promotion. They will promote whoever they want from the long list of brown nosers who spend their days agreeing with everything management says and kissing their as--s. This joke of a system is causing so many good and capable employees to quit and yet they keep doing it. It's all one big joke.

I'd rather invest my time to find another job. Internal promotions are usually disappointing. This is a great time to find a job and get paid 50% to 100% more elsewhere.

@1gpv+1fbc9DLp Lol. That's what it may say in the HR handbook but it's a lie of omission because the most important part of getting promoted is to know how to play politics. In other words, knowing how to please the people that can get you promoted by any means necessary. You'll find the same game being played at other large companies, but Teradata takes the game to the next level.

The easier way to get a promotion/raise is to find another job.

I assume that must have been the same type of progressive, engaging and mindful discussion that took place between the CRO and the EMEA leader and resulted in a successful career plan (at another company).

After all, who in their right mind would want to copy that regional success in a company with such amazing results elsewhere ?

I guess it must be too embarrassing to see one region significantly outperform the others.

Hilarious.

What company do you work for because it’s clearly not Teradata ?

For anyone legitimately looking to get promoted, please work with your manager to build a plan that moves you toward your personality goals. Generally, a promotion is dependant on two primary things:

  1. are you able to fulfill the requirements of the next level (and more likely, are nearly so already) and
  2. does the company need that more elevated position (increasingly true for higher level roles).

If and when both those things are true, and you and your manager have been collectively working your plan, then promotions are often very smooth.

Welcome to corporate America. You really think 99% of all CEO's here in America got there by being the smartest person in the room or being really good at their own jobs? Wake up to reality, you only move up the corporate ladder not on what you know, but who you know and how hard you far you are willing to go.

Private equity ownership will provide you with the solution you require for this problem.

It seems that you just need to hop to another company /job to get a different (higher, hopefully) title and pay, UNLESS you are really close (like you are the best buddy or in the family) of your manager / one of the C-suite guys. Otherwise if you really want to move up in Teradata, go to one of the competitors (for another, higher title), then go back to Teradata :-) But I tell ya, buy most folks who got out of TD in recent years are all happy not be working for TD.

That is a very astute view of most corporations but especially Teradata. The directors and above are dug in like ticks on a bear and sucking the lifeblood of the company. They could get rid of all of Marketing and most directors and above throughout the company and do better.

Those that know how to play game get there climbing and stepping on the shoulders of other hard working colleagues and team. This is nothing new and the same everywhere. If you are lucky, you land a position working for a leader (not manager) who supports and looks out for you so you do get the visibility to get promoted. Sad to say that unless you are under 50, kiss-up or a newly VP from outside the company, you have about a .01 %chance of not just getting promoted, but also getting an actual raise or AIP this year. Realise that only those rare exceeds will get perks this PA..

Obviously you don’t know how to play the game.
