Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Everyone hates everyone else here

It’s obvious that the employees hate the managers and think they are useless. The managers hate the employees and think they are lazy. The execs hate everyone under them and think everyone is replaceable or not needed. So what is the solution? Just endless venting and complaining? UP reminds me of the country and how divined it is by politics with either side not willing to agree or even have honest conversations about their differences and compromising for the good of everyone. Are things too far gone to see we can benefit from each other?

I know at my location, we had a revolving door for managers. We just couldn't keep them. The good ones got smart and left for a better job. The bad ones stayed and got a promotion, then left to a different location. Not all employees are lazy, and not all managers are bad. What I'm trying to figure out is how do the bad managers and bad employees always seem to end up working at the same location? The UP is so bad now, folks are starting to lose sight of what the actual goal of the company is now. Is the UP in the business of railroading or social issues and politics?

All Class Ones have gotten worse, it's not just a UP thing. Class Ones only care about the share holders anymore. Profits. It all boils down to profits. It's not UP hating Joe Bloe. Or manager Jimbo. If it will result in more profits, damn straight they gonna do it.

The change has to start at the top. If only the agreement employees try to “get along” the managers will just keep on abusing them. L.F. KNOWS this problem exists, but does nothing about it. He has been in charge for a long time, for almost 5yrs now it has been public knowledge UP has the most unhappy employees in the country. Has he done anything to improve that? Think about the power trip he has when he visits a service unit. He knows most of the employees there dont like him, but none of them say anything out of behavioral conditioning and fear. Its like the big bully who gets in the face of the scrawny small kid. Bully smiling smug says “you want to hit me dont you?” The small kid just stands there silent but visually upset, tired of being bullied. But fearful if he fights back the bully will hurt him even worse.
