Good guesses are high salary, non-"diverse" folks leading the way, then some deadwood, and just enough of a mix to stave off any lawsuits for targeting the most common targets.
i was part of the big HN RIF on 4/23/20 where 150 people were canned. Surprisingly, HN hasn't had one big one since.
