Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Laying off and hiring at the same time

I would rather not mention which store it is for privacy reasons, but I’ve heard rumors about the store that is both cutting people and hiring at the same time. If the rumor is true, then that’s very strange so I'd like to know what this is all about.

Your store is told to cut 200+ hours a week. Your store has 15 job openings. Please explain.

Because they have no idea what they are doing. Half baked d-mb ideas from Randy’s elite everywhere. Bad idea, Hire people, realize it’s bad idea like everyone already knew, lay people off.. Rinse repeat.

The executives making half a mil + could take a pay cut, but instead the lay off people who live paycheck to paycheck. A pay cut to these people means they might have to sell one of their vacation homes or only take 4 vacations this year.. but the people that they laid off with have trouble feeding their families or paying their mortgage/rent on their only home.

So much greed at the executive level… and the kicker is, they will tell you they earned it. Cause they worked so hard… on the backs of everyone else working as hard if not harder. There really are no words to describe the extreme selfishness of the hyvee elite.

Yeah that’s one of those weird, never been fully explained aspect of Hy-Ver culture. It has nothing to do with “payroll reduction” when existing employees have hours cut or are laid off in favor of new employees brought in at a higher hourly wage. And this is happening to good, hardworking people, not dead weight. If anyone has a real explanation, I’d love to hear it.

Payroll reduction. Plain and simple. Why else do you think this happens? They don't do it just for fun.
