It's not that I'm happy that the company isn't doing well. I am more frustrated because all this is happening due to long-term mismanagement. No one wants to work here anymore and it is clear that UP has a big problem hiring. However, again, those at the top speak as if everything is fine, or worse, try to convince us that the reason no one wants to come here is the result of something other than their poor management. It's getting comical

@1nxz Ahhh brilliant! Your comparisons to the management mentality and religion are spot on. Again, an empathic yes thank you for stating this! Others have mentioned this but working at UP is very similar to being in a cult. Don’t buy into their BS, they will let you go when necessary. Look at it as a job and only a means to get paid.
I find it peculiar that amongst management there is the unwavering appreciation for this mindset. The mindset being as long as management is TRYING to force low level employees to do more work than possible and always blaming low level employees for everything that goes wrong that is what the top wants from their managers. It doesnt matter if it harmful to the company or not. It is almost like a religion, as long as managers are trying to make agreement employees miserable but not quit, that is the goal.
This company is a joke in Omaha now. They’ve literally lost all good will due to hiring people like vena and others and listening to the hedge funds. People just roll their eyes when UP tries to get involved with local charities.
Management at the UP is the rejects from other top companies they saw they were no good and let them go…UP being desperate for a body took them to manage railroad
I live in Omaha and literally 15 years ago if you were known to work for this company you were considered very fortunate. I would always be asked who I knew and how I was able to get hired. Now people are like oh you work for UP I heard that place is really awful. It kinda makes me sad that a certain few were able to tarnish a once great company. But I guess Wall Street thinks they don’t need happy well paid employees to be successful, I guess time will tell.
@rve Yes, Fritz is most likely the worst CEO UP has had in decades. This is pretty much indisputable as Glassdoor reviews can back this up. UP is a money making machine and will continue to make money in spite of the decisions by senior leadership. All Fritz has to do is continue to be alive and show up and he’ll continue making millions.
Why didn't anyone else notice the red flags when Fritz first came to the UP? I NEVER trusted him. The stories I heard and the comments he made before becoming CEO, should gotten way more attention. Yeah, the UP has a BIG problem with hiring right now. They also can't retain the people they have. So one would ask themselves, "how can this be corrected?" The simple answer would be to get rid of Fritz. He's done literally nothing for the company, and has been doing layoffs during his entire tenure as CEO. If the UP wants to correct the hiring issue, start in Omaha. People are just not going to work for any company where management can't be trusted.
Hiring TE&Y is certainly a challenge. When you're actively trying to eliminate a craft, hiring for that craft just might prove problematic...
