Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

RTP - You're really going to like it

What we were told this morning in a webcast - you're really going to like it once you get back in the routine of coming to the office. Sure, who doesn't love less sleep, more stress, sitting in traffic, and less family/personal time? Oh, and please reach out to us if there is anything we can do to make your life easier. Have that not been listening to what we have said will make our lives easier?!

You’re the hired help. Just like janitorial staff most of Shell staff are there at the sole discretion of management. There are some really intelligent people in Staff/Individual Contributor roles, the rest are cannon fodder or future leaders. If leadership says to be in the office, you should go. Better yet, go and passively badmouth laggards, as come review season you’ll be assessed better than your peers. Zero sum game, a dollar that goes to someone else does not go to you. Enjoy!

How does one define “Dead Wood”?

“… (unless you’ve got a severance package for me, then let’s have a coffee, friend).”

There it is. How about a participation trophy, too?

As a commenter posted earlier: Money for nothing (aka severance) and the checks for free (aka salary while you wait around and grouse).

I love the comments on working from home being leisure. Project much?

The people who are aching to get back to the office are the ones who can’t accomplish anything at home or in the office. I bet you can’t wait to come by my cubicle to interrupt my work so that you can “socialize an idea” or “build consensus.” Maybe we can have a team building exercise.

I apologize for “grousing,” I know it’s inappropriate on a website like this that’s built to share all the good things about Shell. Don’t worry, I’ll quit —when I want to, not when you want me to (unless you’ve got a severance package for me, then let’s have a coffee, friend).

And lots of folks don’t like to get up before noon either.
Look, if it means so much to grouse about not having to work in an office, surely it’s a strong indicator you should find an employer who will accommodate your requirements.
If you can’t wean off the Shell direct deposit, find a way to channel the grousing into meaningful contribution.

To the HR below - you need to have a learner mindset to work at Shell. It’s time for you to learn that people don’t like to go back to the office.

It’s called “work” for a reason.
That’s why it’s not called “leisure” aka “do what I want”.
If it’s too distasteful to come in to a “work” location, no one’s forcing you.
Make a living doing “leisure” - and please let us know how that goes for you, the fam and your creditors.

Remember how we changed to open office, which was all about collaboration and not at all a cheaper way to stack more professionals together? It's still as awesome as you remember it!

Everyone needs to hold firm. Don't be shamed into going in to the office more. Leadership wants to pressure people and use our peers to put additional pressure on people. So for 2 years it was fine but now all of the sudden everyone has to go back in. Hold firm

I hope they realize how many people will be looking for jobs if they really push going back to the office. I’ll gladly make less money for more time.
