Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

The worst culture ever

I am not a confrontational person. I am still in touch with most of my colleagues at my previous job where I made many friends. What bothers me here is that despite everything, I can't have a decent relationship with my coworkers. I am not looking for friendship, but for a collegial and respectful relationship. So far I've been unsuccessful because the culture is very toxic. Still, I wonder if it's just me or do others here have such a problem as well?

Hey why don't you lead the group event and be the first to drink the cool-aid, I hear Enbridge is looking for volunteers to go to Jonestown!
Meet you there!

The worst culture is the regional areas. Waterloo has a history of nepotism and bullying. I’m actively looking for other opportunities. My leaders are too busy brown nosing and pretending to care about Inclusion. Laughable.

Some departments have a horrible culture but not all. Our department is awesome (thanks to our director) but trying to collaborate with certain teams is like hitting a brick wall time and time again. They are confrontational, do not listen and don’t even follow processes we have in place to help make the right decisions. When held accountable to their commitments their backs go up immediately and you felt like you are the problem. I like working for Enbridge. I like what I do, the people I work with and my lead. I like where things are going with respects to energy transition. But the constant battle and toxic culture outside our team is wearing when you don’t play politics but still need to get the work done. The bleed is happening; good people are leaving. Will anyone notice?

There is life after Enbridge, believe me. Unfortunately for me,, I feel like I wasted 10 years of my life working there in an unappreciative toxic atmosphere.

It's 1/3rd of your life. You decide if you want to live it with no connections to those in your professional space. To me that's pretty sterile and unpleasant.

Do what's necessary to make it comfortable for you, I guess.

Most office culture is baseline horrible. I'm here to do a job, not make friends. Discussing work related issues with colleagues is not culture. Thats called doing your job.

Businesses push the idea of culture and building bonds with colleagues because if you do, it makes you more likely to stay put when the company inevitably treats you poorly.

And this is not even considering the rampant nepotism and bullying reported by many. So yeah. Agreed. Culture at ENB is a solid F-

"Still I wonder if it's just me..."

Hey, take that introspection elsewhere. Haven't you read this forum? Everybody else is to blame and you're gold surrounded by trash. Get with it.

Truly toxic and bullying is rampant. I left and joined a better company with a better culture. Hope you can do the same.

I don’t know that top management deliberately created Enbridge’s toxic culture. I think it just naturally evolved as a result of their actions. Employees needed to find a way to survive.

Normal employees at Enbridge (that is, people who are reasonably healthy in the head) have learned to be guarded about sharing anything about themselves, about trusting anyone and about showing any vulnerabilities. They have learned that any bit of sensitive information the share about themselves can and will be weaponized and used against them at any time for any reason.

It is critical that you take a very long time getting to know another employee before you trust them enough to open up. Better yet, keep everyone at arms length and simply treat them with professional courtesy.

I’ve seen normal, healthy people like you (that is, people who want to make friends with their colleagues) victimized, bullied and double crossed time and time again.

Top management created this culture because it de-stabilizes everyone and prevents employees from banding together and supporting each other.

Sorry to hear this. I felt the same when I joined. One of our core values is apparently inclusion. Maybe your group would benefit from a group event. Hopefully it gets better for you.
