Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Everybody needs to leave

Staples hasn't been a good place to work for years. The latest layoffs are just another proof of that. There are many companies that are hiring right now that DO offer better pay and benefits (as somebody asked in another thread), and a much better work atmosphere. There is no need for anybody to stay here right now. Use this opportunity while it's available, because it won't last forever.

I got laid off back in November 2021. I received three job offers after leaving, and landed one that pays me $80,000 more than I made it Staples. I realize not everybody lands that type of opportunity, but landing one that is significantly better, even if it just relates to working environment and stability, it’s not difficult in this job market. People need to look for new jobs now before the next round of layoffs comes around. The job market is very healthy and other employers are willing to fight for people with the right skill set.

There is happiness elsewhere. Trust me. I felt so exonerated of guilt depriving myself and family working weekends and holidays as a distribution manager that had 50% reduction of my leadership and near 30% reduction of staff while acquiring inventory from an annex that had reduced its affiliated staff. Total savings in staff and rents … over $180K monthly. What did I get? The threat of a PIP because my leaders, staff associates nor I could provide the need without any additional support. What made it even more laughable was that I had an additional department assigned to myself that was ran solely by another manager who promoted up. The only regret is that I did not hire an ethics attorney. On other hand, I moved on to another company where 16 hour days and poor retention is no longer an issue to the benefit of my family and health. Best wishes to those who are tired of poor treatment and make that brave-rewarding decision to leave.
