Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Enbridge was a great company

Maybe I wouldn't have complained if I didn't know what kind of company this used to be. But since I do know and can compare it to what it is today, I have many questions about how they managed to destroy Enbridge in such a short time? Unbelievable. It should be a case study.

The culture the Enbridge executive have created has trickled well throughout the company.
That’s why at least 3/4 of 10+ yr employees don’t give a sh-t about the company success.
Just do the minimum and go home.

When I first started with the company almost 15 yrs ago, it was one of the best places that I had ever worked. There was pride in the business, a strong sense of belonging; of being part of something big. Departments would help each other, there was a feeling that together we all could make things better, and that experience was not only appreciated, but welcomed into many of the operational decisions.
It has been sad to watch the company move from one of greatness, to one of mediocrity at best.

CEOs get a lot of flack these days. And that is to be expected, for sure. But understand their function. They make decisions that are about the stability, longevity, and profitability of the company.

If you were moved from the front line into a position that is responsible for a team, wouldn't you expect a raise? And if you're asked to make decisions that will impact the company by a billion dollars in the next ten years, wouldn't you expect another raise? It would be an unusable mess to ask the CEO to be concerned about the individuals at the front line. That's for the front line and middle management to worry about.

If the CEO is worried about double digit alterations to the workforce, they aren't doing their own job, and they should probably be ejected.

AM (well, any CEO) would cut you without thinking twice if it benefited them in some fashion. They wouldn't lose a single minute of sleep ruining someones career, reputation, or livelihood. Give the CEO worship a rest.

While I’d love to listen to AM’s former Admin Assistant’s stories, I already know the theme: AM plotting to destroy rivals and be seen as the best; AM sucking up to people who can do something for him; AM toying with employees under him, setting them up for a fall; AM’s wife and sons treated like pawns…and AM humiliating the Admin Assistant, just for fun and because he could. Enbridge is a decidedly interesting case. It was never perfect but it was decent. Over the last decade that basic decency has eroded. It’s now expected—and required for self preservation—that employees treat each other poorly. You’re only as good as the last person you ran over. You’ve got to keep building yourself up by the employees you trample on. That’s how Al Monaco got to where he is.

It’s been heartbreaking to watch.

What, exactly, is wrong with AM? The explanation I hear most often is that his family warped him. He wound up being a vindictive narcissist who gets off on inflicting evil.

Well, "destroy" is a pretty strong word. Until the finances collapse, the bottom falls out of ENB, or a catastrophic failure occurs, "destroyed" isn't right. And that's a very long ways away.

However... in my 24 years with the company, it has absolutely transformed into something I don't care for. The last decade has been a pretty straight beeline away from humanity.
