Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Support positions

Can anyone in a pilot store give any insight on how signing will play out since it’s now back of house with receiving captain overseeing it? Do merchandisers not have to sign now? Do receiving associates have to sign and do markdowns?

re Visual -

My understanding is there will be only one dedicated visual person per store -- the Visual Captain. The Visual Captain oversees the visual execution and makes sure it follows the monthly directive.

Any other visual associates become part of Sales/ Merchandising/ FOH support (or whatever they're calling it).

In theory, sales managers, merchandisers and sales associates are supposed to help perform visual duties and the visual associates are to learn how to ring and do markdowns/ signing. Basically, everyone learns everything.

In practice, this won't work and people will quit cuz I was in a pilot store last year and that is what happened.

How does visual work in all this? Does that mean there will be sales associate doing visual and visual at the registers? Makes no sense?!

From what I understand, receiving and fulfillment will remain as is. On the sales floor there will be two buckets to be scheduled in. One bucket will be basically sales person at the register the other bucket will be doing the pricing merchandising etc. And if someone who is a support associate is scheduled in the selling bucket then they will be at the register and doing selling. If a sales person is scheduled in the other bucket they will be doing the support functions. This is how it was explained from an DVP from a pilot region on one of our conference calls.

Direction keeps changing. When the Pilot rolled out, they reported to the OVM in conjunction with Visual and they would help where needed. During Q4 they signed, did fulfillment, helped replenish, recover, process truck. Whatever needed to get done. Now, I'm not so sure. Since there are really not a lot of hours in BOH anymore due to Pricing/Merchandising going to FOH there is really no clear job description for someone in BOH Support if you're not in Receiving or Fulfillment. It's very confusing and disappointing to not be able to tell them at this point what their job actually is. They are sort of in limbo because maybe next year, it's all one bucket with everyone doing everything, including Receiving. Now, I think they report to the Omni Operations Manager which was the last I heard, although in the roll out of the Innovative Selling Model they said that it was the Style Merchandising Manager's job to oversee it as part of Visual and Promotions. I have no clue anymore. But I feel bad that these colleagues are bounced around like ping pong ba--s while there are other colleagues whose sole job it is to just to stand behind the register playing on Tik Tok while ringing customers.

In my store all of these folks are the same people. The merchandisers sign, do markdowns, tag, do the truck, place product. We do have a couple people who are generally just working receiving/non con/damage/penny but one will likely learn signing too. Fulfillment will also help out with the truck if there's a light day.
