I am going to join MSFT as a SDE 2. Are layoffs and RIF something to actively worry about?

SDE 2 is a fairly junior position. Therefore, not much to be worried about, as there are plenty of SDE 2 jobs available throughout Microsoft even if lightning happens to strike a specific business unit. At worst it will require an interview.
