Stop announcing to anybody willing to listen that you're planning to leave. It's a fact that we'll be having major layoffs soon. If your name is on the list and your manager finds out through somebody you told you're planning to leave, your name will be removed from the list immediately. You'll lose severance for no good reason. Until the day you're ready to walk out, keep your plans to yourself.

LOL they are hurting so bad in support they will not lay you off they will milk you till you leave.
Managers are not included in this type of discussions, HR , senior directors, etc are
They already know most people are leaving.
Directors and above are always involved and managers are usually left out as long as possible.
Managers don't do those calls. Even Directors are rarely involved. Only if they are close to their Sr Directors or VPs. Usually is all base on spreadsheet, Jokein type of management. If you are expensive and your overal stack rank is low, you are out.
I told HR.
Agree you should keep your plans to yourself.
BUT ..
this could work the other way. If I were a manager, asked to cut my staff, I'd much rather lay someone off that is going to quit anyway. It saves someone else's job, and what do I care if we pay severance to someone that was going to quit anyway?
