Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Should middle management be worried or field reps?

Not sure what middle sales management does- they seem to only be in and out of meetings. Do you think middle management is at the higher risk of being laid off than field sales? Or will middle management have to start selling instead of field sales?

I think DMs have the most to fear since their levels of incompetence and stupidity have reached altitudes of idiocy that in prior years were unimaginable.
What’s most important is you get out there to your beautiful professors and you sell the high quality and functionality of these delightful eLearning software products.

@8udo+1fFNNggl. A breath of fresh air. Thank you for stating reality. No one cares about our product. They never have. Most importantly, they don't need it!

First off, this educational software company needs to develop a way to stop password sharing. I can out and sell non-stop but these kids are sharing passwords with up to 10 people! That's not even $20 bucks a pop! I'm really getting screwed over here!

Four or five years ago, Wiley eliminated almost all of their field sales operation. They moved everything inside and created small field "strike force" teams on a regional basis to travel around and try to close leads that the inside reps had developed. It is not impossible to imagine Cengage employing this kind of structure at some point in the future.

And most importantly there is always someone to keep inside reps under their thumb.

Field Reps should worry, I think those jobs are all going to the Inside Sales Group, most secure place to be right now. Super cheap operation to run. Even with bonuses they don't get paid a lot. Big cost savings over the field reps.
