Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

The worst company that still has a lot of great employees

There aren’t many, but there are still some great, knowledgeable employees here who would be much more valued elsewhere. How does UP still manage to keep them? It's a mystery.
If I had the skills and experience like they do, I would forget that UP exists.

There’s more talent among the remaining limo drivers than with UP

@2uru, you’re wrong. I know many job-hoppers at UP (get a new job every year or two) and they’re discontent as well.

You’ll be valued a lot more at other companies. You aren’t going to be a family there either but you shouldn’t be it is a job. UP uses the term UP family to exploit their workers into taking more than they should and doing things they shouldn’t. No corporation will be your family but you will have more quality of life and be able to spend time with your real family once you leave Union Pacific.

It’s the railroad retirement trap. No death benefit for my wife if I leave the railroad means I’m stuck working here.

You won’t be valued anywhere else either. Corporations are about profit and nothing else. Employees are strictly a tool organizations use to make financial goals and are let go when they are no longer needed. If you want to be valued, start your own business, otherwise when you work got someone else you are only an expendable asset.

I think it has a lot to do with them realizing that folks are actually leaving and not coming back. They probably also realize their idea of calling people back after they furloughed thousands of them backfired badly. So the moral of that story is that they're probably leaving the rest of the folks alone.

Unfortunately, this post is true. As shi**y as UP is, they can and do reward high performers with pay increases, bonuses, and stock which is likely why some stay at UP.
