2022 strategy cascade

Just watched the 3/7 strategy cascade video. Say they gonna hire 3,000 people. Wow. They furloughed about 11,000 people the last 3 years. I cannot recommend anyone work for up , because of their past furloughs.

Now we are offered newsletters , stock ownership plan , 401 plan changes , employee appreciation plans/events , etc,,,, to try to make us feel better . Working on a team and we are all family we are told now. None of this creates an employee loyalty to UP.

Strategy cascade? Is this a real plan they have? When you have a management team that is so disconnected from the rest of the company, then how can anyone expect any plan they have to actually work?? They came out with their own version of PSR, and screwed that up. They laid off thousands of people, and somehow thought those folks would come back when called! OOPS, I guess they screwed that up too. Here's an idea for the UP. Why don't they address the problems they already have, instead of creating new ones? You have tens of thousands of employees who are pi---d. It would be beneficial to address their concerns first.

Good luck hiring UP lmao. You are a laughing joke and are uninvited from most college recruiting fairs due to your recent record.

Your right about it getting tough to find qualified applicants. The ones who are qualified are not applying for class 1 railroad jobs any more. The pay and benefits used to be the thing that attracted people, it’s never been about the company. They’ve always treated people bad to a degree. The current management style of crapping all over the few remaining employees is getting attention outside the railroad and qualified applicants are going elsewhere. Why work for the same pay you could make somewhere else and never see a weekend off?

It is becoming more and more difficult to find qualified applicants, for any company.
It is difficult to find applicants who DON'T have;
A. Criminal record.
B. Dr-g/Alcohol issues.

  1. Continueing legal problems.
  2. Overwhelming personal issues.

Those applicants who DO have;
A. A strong education.
B. A skill/ trade.

  1. Good work ethic.
  2. Physically able to work

E. Prior work experience.
Are, inturn, difficult to find..
We may see applicants for train service, who are unable to think, make decisions 2 and 3 moves at a time..
Mechanical applicants who have don't like getting "dirty", can't read a tape measure, etc,etc.

I am sorry to break it to you Beth. (Respectively) it not one of the best companies to work for. Obviously you havent been out in the field enough. And if your going by employee surveys that we were forced to take. Its wrong. You cannot force and threaten a employee to take a employee survey and expect them how they really feel about the company. You dont need a degree or be with a company to figure that out.

UP among the the "best" companies to work for ... Seriously Beth? Check Glassdoor UP rating. It is sad. Just waiting for the new contract signed so I can get my backpay, if we get anything anything. Sometime in June when I get my next year vacation approved I am done with it. Over 11 years in, now it's time to make move!

Who would down vote pay raises? I guess some people don’t like money to pay their bills.

Yeah hire 3000, after furloughing thousands! I wish Fritz would just come out and say he screwed up. I wouldn't go back to the UP, but I would at least feel better knowing that he at least acknowledges he's a sc--w up. I wouldn't recommend anyone either. I've actually turned people away from applying. It's just not worth it.

They've resorted to hiring felons now. They can't get normal people to even apply for a job at this dumpster fire company. New hire classes in transportation are 5 or less where I work and we have borrow outs from Chicago that they are paying $600 a day just to cover vacancies.

What’s a 3/7 strategy cascade? Is that like the UP flywheel, or courage to care, or G55?

Any mention of pay raises? We’re all getting tired of working without a contract!
