Thread regarding Sears layoffs

In August 2019 there were 393 stores. Started 2022 with approximately 275 and approximately 250 remain. The numbers certainly are dwindling fast but seeing as how many of these are franchises I have no doubt the number won’t go to 0 for decades just like a number of restaurants still using long defunct names. Heck, there’s still a Bockbuster. These just operate as independent local businesses using a formerly famous name.

No, these are actual announcements by Hometown Stores that they are closing.

I tried posting a list of 30+ Hometown closings here a few weeks ago. Both times it was removed.

I do not think you can buy one from the corporation, only resales. On occasion one moves location. Part of these stores are repos run by the corporation until the lease ends.

As we have expressed so many times before, our go-forward store strategy for Sears and Kmart is to operate a diversified portfolio consisting of a small number of larger, premier stores with a larger number of small-format stores.

This is why you see an increment of HTS which are driving tremendous revenue to the company.

I only can find evidence of one opening recently. A few have put on their Facebook pages that they are under new ownership. A few of the ones that closed were recently opened or recently changed owners.

And yet some have been opening even while many others closed.

More than that. It was around 20 total. There were lists posted here a few times and deleted.
