Improving relationship with superior

Instead of blaming your manager why not work with them to make both of your lives better. You may have more in common with her or him than you know.

This made me laugh because I've been trying to build a good work relationship with my manager for a year now, but it just isn't working out. He has no desire to actually work with someone, he just wants to constantly prove superiority. That's the way most managers here are. Purely out of curiosity, how do you try to improve the relationship with your manager here? Do you have any interesting and useful tips?

The managers at Dell are easy-peasy to play. They are fairly d-mb and do not know how build meaningful model in their heads which will allow them to predict what will happen next. Without predictions all you need to do is to learn the rules of the game and you will play them like a fiddle.

I once sent my manager flowers
from a a secret admirer with lip stick kisses.

For the 1st week his mood changed but that soon faded once he realized the sercert admirer disappeared.

I’ve seen it at Dell but I’m sure it happens at any large company. The tendency to put someone in management who has high technical skill thinking they will figure out how to be a good manager. Rarely works out. If the persons ego is to dominate they can’t let go enough to be a good manager. But I have also been that employee that was sure my manager was terrible (at the time) and it wasn’t until years later upon self reflection that I realized that I was the troublesome one. That I had let my ego control my actions with that manager and had I just relaxed and given the manager the benefit of the doubt would have ended up having a good relationship with that person.

Last time I tried to work with an id--t manager and be friendly, they complained at me for wanting to talk about my job during 1x1s (because they didn’t understand what their own team did and didn’t want to feel insecure about it), got mad at me for using big words, and tried to pile some of their own work into my plate because people get punished for being competent around here.

Managers at Dell are just toddlers with power, you’re better off just doing the bare minimum and trying not to engage unless you absolutely have to
